Acenda Life Insurance Review
Acenda is the new name for MLC Life Insurance, which rebranded in 2025. Far from a new entrant, it carries the heritage of MLC - one of Australia's oldest and largest life insurers - and is owned by Japan's Nippon Life. In 2025 the Acenda Group also brought together Resolution Life Australasia, which holds the former AMP life insurance business, along with Asteron Life New Zealand, creating one of the largest life insurance groups across Australia and New Zealand and serving more than two million customers. Acenda offers life cover, TPD, trauma and income protection through licensed financial advisers, and also issues the Encompass Protection product administered through the NEOS platform.
Who Acenda suits
Acenda can suit people who want cover from a large, well-established insurer with significant scale and a long claims history. It is also directly relevant to existing MLC Life Insurance customers, whose policies now sit under the Acenda brand, as well as former AMP and Resolution Life customers whose cover has moved into the same group. Because cover is arranged through advisers, Acenda suits people who want guidance rather than a quick direct purchase.
Acenda key strengths
- One of Australia's largest life insurers, carrying the heritage of MLC Life and backed by Japan's Nippon Life
- The Acenda Group also includes the former AMP and Resolution Life Australasia business, adding significant scale
- Both own occupation and any occupation TPD definitions available
- Stepped and level premium structures available

Things to consider
- The Acenda brand name is new (2025), even though the underlying MLC business is long-established
- Existing MLC, AMP or Resolution Life policyholders should confirm how their cover and any legacy features carry across
- Products are arranged through a licensed financial adviser, not sold directly online
Acenda life insurance FAQs
What happened to MLC Life Insurance?
MLC Life Insurance rebranded to Acenda in 2025. It was a brand and ownership change rather than a change to policies - existing MLC Life Insurance policies continue under the Acenda brand with their terms intact. The business is owned by Japan's Nippon Life.
Is Acenda the same as AMP or Resolution Life?
They are now part of the same group. In 2025, Nippon Life brought together MLC Life Insurance and Resolution Life Australasia, which holds the former AMP life insurance business, along with Asteron Life New Zealand, under the Acenda Group. Existing policies generally continue on their original terms.
Is my MLC, AMP or Resolution Life policy still valid under Acenda?
Yes. Existing policies continue under their original terms and conditions. The changes have been to brand and ownership, not to the cover itself. If you have questions about your specific policy, contact Acenda or your financial adviser.
Does Acenda offer cover inside superannuation?
Yes. Acenda offers life insurance both inside and outside superannuation, and the former MLC business had a strong presence in group insurance through super funds. Whether super ownership suits you depends on your individual situation.
What is Encompass Protection?
Encompass Protection is a life insurance product issued by Acenda and administered through the NEOS adviser platform. It offers life, TPD, trauma and income protection, and is arranged through financial advisers.
